“Exploring Concepts and Building Awareness – A Week of Learning, Interaction, and Reflection”

    Teaching Science, Touching Lives

During this week, I engaged in diverse teaching and learning experiences that enhanced both my pedagogical and social awareness skills. I taught key science concepts such as atmospheric pressure, oxidation and reduction reactions, oxidising and reducing agents, oxidation number, and pressure balance using different innovative teaching models including the ICT Model, 5E Model, and Inquiry Training Model.

In addition to classroom instruction, I actively participated in a sociometric analysis to understand students’ social relationships and conducted a field study on substance abuse, which aimed to raise awareness about making healthy life choices. This week proved to be both academically enriching and socially meaningful.

29th September 2025 (Monday)

I signed in at 9:30 AM. During the second hour, I handled class 8B, where I taught the concept Atmospheric Pressure following Lesson Plan 13. The students showed great interest as I demonstrated real-life examples, such as how suction cups and syringes work due to atmospheric pressure. In the fourth hour, I had a substitution class in 9A, where I taught the concept Oxidising and Reducing Agents, connecting it with real-life examples like rusting of iron and bleaching action of chlorine to make the concept relatable.

During the seventh hour, I took another substitution class in 9B, where I taught Reduction using the Inquiry Training Model, encouraging students to ask questions and infer meanings through guided reasoning.

In the afternoon session, a Sociometric Analysis was conducted for students to study their social relationships and classroom interactions. The activity helped identify group dynamics, friendships, and student preferences, which are valuable insights for improving classroom harmony and cooperation.

3rd October 2025 (Friday)

I signed in at 9:30 AM. During the second hour, I had a substitution class in 9A, where I taught the concept Oxidation Number, explaining how to determine the oxidation state of elements in compounds through examples.

In the third hour, I handled class 8B and taught the concept Pressure Balance using the 5E Model of Teaching (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate). This approach helped students actively participate and construct their own understanding of the topic.

In the fifth hour, I had a class in 9B, where I taught Oxidising and Reducing Agents through an ICT presentation. The use of animations and diagrams helped students clearly visualize oxidation and reduction processes.

4th October 2025 (Saturday)

I signed in at 9:30 AM. During the first hour, I had class 9A, where I taught the Method of Calculating Oxidation Number, providing step-by-step examples and practice problems for better clarity.

As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, I also conducted a field study on the topic “Substance Abuse and Its Consequences” at 1:45 PM. The session aimed to create awareness among students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and the importance of making healthy life choices. We organized a slide presentation and an interactive discussion to convey the message effectively. Students actively participated, shared opinions, and reflected on the importance of mental and physical well-being.

The session received positive feedback for its relevance and impact on student awareness.

The week from 29th September to 4th October 2025 was both academically and socially enriching. Teaching various chemistry and physics concepts through innovative teaching models like ICT and 5E allowed me to engage students more effectively and promote conceptual clarity. The Sociometric Analysis activity provided deep insight into students’ social patterns, helping me understand classroom dynamics better.

The Field Study on Substance Abuse was a meaningful extension beyond academics—it developed students’ awareness about responsible choices and fostered values of self-care and empathy.

Overall, the week strengthened my skills in instructional design, classroom management, and value-based education, reflecting the holistic nature of a teacher’s role in nurturing both intellect and character.
